Since 2011, Justin Firestone has served as the managing director of Firestone Management Group, and in 2012 he helped found the private air travel firm Wheels Up. Outside of his professional work, Justin Firestone leverages his business success as a member of the Florida Council of 100, where he works to improve the economic climate of the state of Florida.
The Florida Council of 100 is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1961. It works closely with policy makers and supports positions that improve the economic health and well-being of Florida’s citizens. Since its inception, the Florida Council of 100 has spearheaded initiatives such as health care cost containment studies, free enterprise programs, personal financial literacy, and right-to-work policies, among others. Right-to-work refers to employment law that prohibits unions from requiring membership as a condition of employment. Employment that requires union representation is often known as a union shop, a closed shop, or an agency shop. Although they prohibit mandated union representation, right-to-work policies do assert the right of an individual to join a union and pay union dues if they so choose. Right-to-work policies are often implemented at the state and local level under the authority of Section 14(b) of the Taft-Hartley Act.
